Johannesburg - A man has been arrested for allegedly raping his teenage daughter in Butterworth, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.

The man was arrested on Monday, and was due to appear in court soon, Captain Jackson Manatha said.

The rape allegedly took place in May at a village in Butterworth. Manatha said the 15-year-old girl was raped when her mother was away at a vigil.

“The victim never broke the silence to her mother or schoolteachers until it was noticed by her mother that her stomach was big,” said Manatha.

“When she was asked by her mother about who caused the pregnancy, it was at that stage that she revealed to her mother that she was (allegedly) raped by her father.” - Sapa
