A man has been arrested in Pretoria for alleged illegal possession of rhino horns, police said on Tuesday.
Police saw the 40-year-old man carrying a black bag on a footpath in Kameeldrift on Monday, said Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale.
He started walking faster as he neared a police car which was driving along the road, then ran past it into bushes.
A policeman gave chase. The man took something out of the bag and threw it aside while running away.
After he was arrested, the policeman found that the object was a black plastic bag allegedly containing three rhino horns. Police also seized a torch and a cellphone.
The man would appear soon in the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court, Mogale said. – Sapa
