Port Elizabeth - An Ethiopian national has been arrested for allegedly shooting dead a 19-year-old woman in Elliotdale, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.

The man was working at his brother's shop with the woman on Monday evening when they started arguing, spokesman Major Zamukulungisa Jozana said.

“It is alleged that a quarrel ensued between the two, resulting in the shooting and killing of the female by the suspect.”

The woman suffered several gunshot wounds to her upper body. Police found eight empty cartridges on the scene.

The 27-year-old man is soon expected to appear in the Elliotdale Magistrate's Court to face a charge of murder. - Sapa
