Johannesburg - A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with car hijacking in Jabulani, Soweto, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

He was taken into custody on Tuesday night after he was caught driving a hijacked Toyota Quantum, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

The company vehicle was allegedly hijacked in Masuka Street while delivering goods in the area.

Three armed men confronted the driver when he got out of the vehicle around midday, he said.

“They then got in the car and sped off.”

Makhubela said the vehicle was spotted by police in Diepkloof at night. They stopped it and arrested the driver.

“Only one parcel was discovered, the rest had already been off-loaded.”

The man would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Police were searching for the other men, said Makhubela. - Sapa
