Rustenburg - A 31-year-old Nigerian man was arrested in connection with the death of three people including a nine-year-old girl in Schweizer-Reneke, North West police said on Monday.

Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the man was arrested at a hospital in Vryburg on Sunday evening.

"According to information, the suspect went to a 54-year-old Congolese woman’s rented room at Roshunville in Schweizer-Reneke where he allegedly stabbed her with a knife.

A few minutes later he allegedly stabbed a 46-year-old man who was sitting outside one of the rooms with a knife. The victim was allegedly in the area for two hours after being transferred from Carletonville to work as a security official in Schweizer-Reneke."  "

He then stabbed a nine-year-old child who was also outside in the premises.

The nine-year-old girl's father chased him, but could not succeed in arresting him.

The two adult victims were certified on the scene, while the minor victim was certified dead on arrival at Schweizer-Reneke hospital.

Mokgwabone said preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect is not related to any of the victims.

"The suspect was arrested late in the evening yesterday [ Sunday] at a hospital in Vryburg where he went for medical treatment due to injury he sustained when he jumped a fence while the minor victim's father was chasing him.

The motive of the killing is still unknown at this stage.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrate's Court on Tuesday."
