A Free State man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife during an argument and then dumping her body in the Modder River, police said on Tuesday.

Constable Consolation Mokoale said the 35-year-old man and his wife, 35, from H2 section Botshabelo apparently had an argument last Friday.

“It's alleged that he started assaulting her until she died.”

Mokoale said he allegedly wrapped her body in blankets and took her in a hired vehicle to the Modder River between Botshabelo and Dewetsdorp.

The man reported his wife missing at police earlier this week.

Police received information that the couple had a fight and then the women disappeared, said Mokoale.

The man was arrested when police learned the body of a woman had been found in the Modder River the same day his wife was reported missing. - Sapa
