Johannesburg - A man has been arrested in Muldersdrift in possession of two pistols, a blue light, a siren, and a suspected stolen car, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

“We believe that the arrest of the man on Saturday may solve several violent crimes such as murder, hijacking and house robberies in the area and other areas in the province,” said Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini.

The 33-year-old was arrested when two pistols with their serial numbers removed were found in a bag in his room in a lodge, he said.

“His red Renault Clio was also searched and a blue light (and) siren were seized. The vehicle's identification particulars had been tampered with. It is suspected that the vehicle is stolen.”

Dlamini said five robbers shot dead one person and wounded another in a robbery on a plot in Muldersdrift on Friday night. The robbers took a cellphone and R400, and ran away, he said.

“The man has not yet been linked to this incident, but police will work around the clock to identify the responsible criminals,” he said.

The man would appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court on Monday. - Sapa
