Johannesburg - A man was arrested in Soweto after he was allegedly found in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

“Police were tipped off on Monday night that a man kept firearms and ammunition at his house,” Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

Police found three unlicensed firearms, 14 rounds of ammunition for a 9mm pistol, and 40 rounds for a revolver.

Police also found US currency and a briefcase full of blank cheques.

Makhubela said stripped car parts were also found. The 39-year-old man would be charged with possession of stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and fraud. - Sapa
