Zeerust, North West - A Zeerust man shot dead his ex-girlfriend at her work in Shalima Park, North West, on Thursday, police said.

The 43-year-old man was hit by a car while trying to evade arrest and was in hospital under police guard, said Warrant Officer Sam Tselanyane.

He said Keneilwe Nakedi, 29, got a protection order against him after he threatened her and immediately feared for her life when she saw him when she got to work.

She asked a colleague to lock the doors and phoned her father, but the man pulled out a firearm and shot at the glass door, breaking it, said Tselanyane.

He walked into the office and shot at Nakedi before running away. She was declared dead at the scene.

Her colleague was wounded in the left ankle by a stray bullet.

“The man was spotted moments later at the N4 road trying to flee and was hit by a vehicle that was in the direction of Zeerust,” said Tselanyane.

He was taken to Zeerust Provincial Hospital in a critical condition and was later transferred to the Bophelong Provincial Hospital in Mahikeng.

Tselanyane said he would be charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. - Sapa
