Pietermaritzburg - A man accused of killing a 12-year-old girl appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Monday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Captain Thulani Zwane said the case against the 32-year-old man was postponed to July 16.

The girl was reported missing on June 22. Her body was found in a water tank in Mbutshane, Sweetwaters, outside Pietermaritzburg, on Tuesday. Her hands had been tied and there were injuries to her head and face.

Zwane declined to comment on what led police to the man. He said he confessed to the murder at the weekend and had since been charged. - Sapa
