Mount Fletcher, Eastern Cape -

A man accused of killing a Kingsford farmer appeared in the Mount Fletcher Magistrate's Court on Thursday, Eastern Cape police said.

Mahalonke Onke Ngcawana, 26, would be back in court on September 18 for a bail application. He remained in custody, Lieutenant Raphael Motloung said.

Hercules Phil Jordaan, 61, was shot dead with his firearm on July 27, allegedly by two employees on his farm in the Mount Fletcher area.

Motloung said they grabbed a gun Jordaan was carrying.

“It is not yet clear as to why he was carrying the firearm, because we have not even established if there was any argument,” said Motloung.

He said investigations led to the arrest of Ngcawana on August 23. His colleague was arrested on July 27. He escaped from police custody, but was re-arrested earlier this week. - Sapa
