Klerksdorp - A 35-year-old man accused of raping and murdering a 60-year-old woman appeared in the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, North West police said.
The man would make a formal bail application next Tuesday, Captain Pelonomi Makau said.
On Sunday around 10pm, in Tigane, Hartbeesfontein, the elderly woman asked for someone to accompany her home after she had been visiting her family. A man volunteered to walk her home, but instead allegedly took her to another room, where he raped and repeatedly stabbed her.
On Monday morning, neighbours saw the woman's body lying outside the man's house and called police.
The man, who had bloodstains on his clothing, was arrested in connection with the crime.
