A man appeared in the Alberton Magistrate's Court on Monday on several counts of rape and robbery, Gauteng police said.

He would appear in court again on August 27, said Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini. He remained in custody.

Dlamini said that, in a crime spree which started in November 2010, the 32-year-old man allegedly entered people's homes in Tokoza, on the East Rand, woke them at gunpoint, demanded money and cellphones, then raped them.

He faced another 10 charges, including housebreaking and robbery, in Limpopo. - Sapa
