Dundde, KwaZulu-Natal - A man accused of killing a National Freedom Party councillor appeared in the Dundee Magistrate's Court on Monday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Khawulani Mkhize, 28, would be back in court on September 10 and will remain in custody, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

The matter was postponed for further investigation

Police, acting on a tip-off through its intelligence unit, arrested Mkhize in the Pomeroy area on Friday, said Zwane.

Isaac Thulebona Nhlebela, 28, was in his vehicle together with his two sons on Nqutu Road when he was shot dead on July 6. The two sons were not hurt during the attack.

Zwane said the gunman fled the scene with a getaway car that was parked nearby. - Sapa
