Cape Town - A man was beaten and stabbed to death because he was trying to prevent a crime. Residents claim the 34-year-old’s head was beaten in with a rock because he had reported a friend of his alleged attackers to the cops for having a stolen gun.
Cops now have two men behind bars for the brutal murder. The lifeless body of Famuel Motang was discovered in Philippi in the early hours of Monday morning. Famuel had been attacked on Sunday evening.
He was reportedly grabbed by a group of men who stabbed and beat him before throwing a rock at his head.
The bloodied rock still lay near his body as cops cordoned off the scene.
A 21- and 28-year-old were arrested on Tuesday after police received information from community members.
“From what I hear he was beaten on Sunday night,” a 44-year-old resident who did not want to be identified tells the Daily Voice.
“Three people were seen that night coming out of the house carrying out a wash basin and everyone thought they were taking out rubbish.
“This morning this body was discovered and we knew instantly he [Famuel] was the one carried out.”
The two suspects have been charged with murder and appeared briefly at the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer November Filander says the matter is still under investigation.
“It is alleged the 21-year-old suspect had an argument with the deceased a few weeks ago,” Filander says.
“And on Sunday [one of] the suspects allegedly grabbed the deceased when he walked past his house and stabbed him to death.
