Johannesburg - A Soweto man has been arrested for the alleged rape of his girlfriend's 14-year-old daughter, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.
“The 29-year-old man was arrested after the girl told her school teacher of the incident,” spokesman Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.
The man was staying with his 39-year-old girlfriend and her daughter in a one bedroom house in Zola North. The couple were sharing a bed while the girl slept on the floor.
Makhubela said, on Monday night the boyfriend left his bed and allegedly got into the girl's blankets.
“He got into the blanket and (allegedly) started fondling her and then raped her. The girl jumped and noticed it was her mother's boyfriend,” he said.
The mother did not hear anything.
Makhubela said the teenager did not tell her mother and went back to sleep. Upon her arrival at school, she informed her teacher of what happened.
“The teacher called the mother to inform her of what happened. She went to the school and a case of rape was opened,” he said.
The man was arrested and would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. - Sapa
