Rustenburg – A 51-year-old man has been arrested at a border post near Mafikeng for allegedly attempting to leave the country in a suspected stolen car, North West police said on Sunday.

The man was arrested on Friday while trying to leave the country through the Ramatlabama border post with Botswana, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said.

"It is alleged that the suspect was stopped at the port of entry and his vehicle searched and circulated. During circulation, it was discovered that the vehicle, [an] Audi A4, was reported stolen in Pretoria early this month. The suspect was arrested and the vehicle worth R320 000 was seized. [The] Investigation into the matter continues."

The man was expected to appear in the Molopo Magistrate's Court in Mmabatho on Monday on a charge of possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, Mokgwabone said.
