The affordable education loan option
Durban - A Durban man who had just withdrawn R50 000 from a bank to pay staff wages was followed to his business premises, struck on the head with a gun, shot at and robbed.
Niresh, who did not want his full named published, 33, said he had withdrawn the money from the Standard Bank branch at the Bluff Hillside Mall at about 12.30pm yesterday before returning to his workplace on Solomon Mahlangu (Edwin Swales VC) Drive.
He said he had not noticed that several men had been following him until he heard a shot being fired at him in the company property.
“Just as I got into the yard they were behind me. One of them asked me: ‘Where’s the money?’ and hit me with the gun on the head twice,” he said.
“My boss came with a gun and tried to intervene, but it was too late. They took my wallet and the money which was in a packet in the car.”
It is believed the men escaped in a gold Mercedes Benz C180.
Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker confirmed that Brighton Beach police were investigating a case of armed robbery. He said there were no arrests yet.
