Johannesburg - Esikhaleni Regional Court in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday sentenced a 51-year-old Ginqi Ngema to 25 years behind bars for raping a six-year-old girl in her homestead in December 2015, police said on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Shooz Magudulela said the victim's grandmother was at the homestead in the Ndaya area when she was alerted that the child was being raped in a house by the accused.
“The case was reported to Esikhaleni SAPS and the docket was transferred to Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.”
Magudulela said the accused was apprehended the same day and made several court appearances until he was sentenced.
