Pretoria - A man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly shooting and injuring his girlfriend and two children in Ga-Rankuwa, North of Pretoria, Gauteng police said.
The 40-year-old man allegedly shot and injured a five-year-old and a seven-year-old at the his girlfriend's home in Mabopane on Friday night before fleeing the scene, Lt-Col Khensani Magoai said.
On Saturday morning, he asked a friend to take him to the hospital where the children were recovering.
“When he arrived at the hospital he shot and injured his girlfriend,” Magoai said.
When police arrived at the hospital, the man pointed his firearm at them.
They disarmed the man and arrested him.
The seven-year-old was in a critical condition, while the five-year-old and the man's 24-year-old girlfriend were stable.
The motive for the shooting was unknown and police were investigating.
The man would be charged with attempted murder, pointing of a firearm, possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, Magoai said.
He would appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court soon. - Sapa
