A young woman was brutally shot dead after she smacked her alleged killer for grabbing her buttocks.
Charlene Solomons, 21, was gunned down in cold blood in a shebeen in Aster Street, Uitsig, on Saturday night.
She was sitting down enjoying a few drinks with friends when her alleged pervert killer approached her from behind.
The creep started fondling Charlene – but the brave young woman turned around and slapped him in the face.
Her attacker responded by hitting her back.
And he then pulled out a firearm and shot her in the head.
Charlene crumpled to the ground and died at the scene, which was just a few metres from her home.
Her alleged killer then fled the scene.
A close relative of the victim Sunday night said Charlene’s grief-stricken family cannot come to terms with her brutal and senseless killing.
“We don’t know what exactly happened,” she tells the Daily Voice.
“Someone came to tell us that she had an argument with a man who touched her bums.
“And when she refused his advances, the man fired a shot at her.
“This is very sad. She was a breadwinner in the family.
“She was a loving person who helped her mother at all times.”
Charlene’s 48-year-old mom was too traumatised to speak about the incident on Sunday night.
But one local resident – who did not want to be identified – says incidents where youngsters get injured or killed in shebeens are common in the area.
“I don’t know what else should be done to fight illegal shebeens,” she says.
“Shebeen owners open up till late.
“Armed people are found in shebeens.
“It’s even difficult to send kids to the shops at night.
“The community needs to stand up against this.”
Police spokesman Captain FC Van Wyk on Sunday night confirmed a murder docket has since been opened.
But no arrests have been made yet.
Van Wyk says a 21-year-old woman was fatally wounded when an unidentified man entered the shebeen in Aster Street.
“It is alleged that the victim was sitting when the suspect approached her and touched her private parts,” he tells the Daily Voice.
“The victim became angry and smacked the suspect who retaliated and smacked her back.
“And he then produced a firearm and fired a shot, fatally wounding the woman.”

alleged "pervert" killer, The "creep" started... how can these emotive words be used by a journalist if in fact it is alleged - this article is very poorly written!

I think the reason why men like this get away with things like this is the same reason gangsters get away with being criminals. BECAUSE WE LET THEM. How can the many fear the few? How many more innocent people must be killed before we DO something? Or don't we want to "get involved?" Until it happens to someone we know, then of course, its different. Why, oh why can't we stand up as one against this evil?

The saddest thing about this is that nothing will happen to this pig. I have lost all hope in our justice system, it's sad how women have no recourse for incidents such as these, a guy can grab your bum, push you around in a public place and when you report the matter to the police they tell you that there's nothing they can do about it as it's that harasser didn't really hurt you......humiliation is legal in SA, bullying is allowed and this is where it leads to...Shame on all this very educated people woh draft the laws and the constitution!!

Our police should take the time to educate our people on what they are lawfully able to do in situations such as these. If the shebeen's patrons and owners had grabbed this guy whilst in the act, disarmed him and maybe given him a couple of klaps, he would be caught, would not get bail and probably have gotten a life sentence. Life sentences can mean life sentence if our communities are educated about how our parole system works and how victims and their families can object to perpetrators' release on parole. Just saying.

@Anonymous 12:50pm and you should not have access to the internet at your work place given your narrow mind and atrocious spelling. Please throw your PC out the nearest window. Thank you. PS: People who to go to church to PRAISE God just once a week and then pass judgement on others whilst hiding behind their "religion" every other day are just as dangerous as the criminal who pulled the trigger.

I find it very strange that the first thing people say..."this is very sad, she was the breadwinner"....how about, she was my daughter, and I loved her very much......such an unnecessary tragedy.....RIP.

What's up with SA men? Lesbians get murdered for being gay, women get murdered for protecting themselves against unwanted advances. Women get raped and murdered daily by their husbands or boyfriends. The list goes on. Are SA men so weak and emasculated that the only way they can make themselves feel good is by subjugating the women in society? Shame on you

Unbelievable! Such low regard for a human life from the moment he decided to touch her inappropriately to pulling the trigger.

@ anonymous with the you should of been in church story ..... On November 2009 just 6 days before my 17 year old neice was to write her matric exams she was attacked from behind while after church on a sunday evening while walking home by a drug addict who wanted her gold name chane. She could of been paralysed today if the stab wound to her back was just a few millimeters closer to her spine. Today the case is still process and the thug and his gronies even offered my neice money to drop the chargers. The incident of the young woman being shot dead in the tavern does not mean she deserved to die just because she was in the tavern ... wrong is wrong at the end of the day ... and the man had no right touching her against her rights. And by the way ... this could fo happeded outside the tavern as well ...just like how my niece was walking home from church.

@Anonymous 01:12pm - Gun control - get real - do you really think the gun used in this incident was legally registered. Gun control is useless because the targets of gun control are the legit owners, NOT the criminals with illegal firearms.

Condolences to the family. Animals like this one roaming the streets armed deserve the death penalty.

Wow, there some really ignorant people here. Jason, do you know where Uitsig is? Do you it's a place nobody chooses to live in, except the likes of Tony Ehrenreich. Why don't you familiarise yourself with the conditions under which this poor woman lived before making such mindless comments. Get out of your little comfy world and see where the majority of SAns actually live.

When are they going to bring back life in prison with hard labour for scum like this??? I really think that it's time for a rethink of our pathetically liberal laws: you get caught committing a crime with a firearm, it's life in prison, no parole and hard labour.
