Kimberley - A Kimberley man was stabbed and brutally beaten to death with a hammer outside his home in Parson Lane, West End, on Sunday morning.

The half-naked body of Gerald Swart, 29, was found with multiple stab wounds. It appeared he had been stabbed in the heart.

Police spokesman, Captain Olebogeng Tawana, said he was declared dead on the scene.

“It is alleged that two suspects became involved in an argument with the deceased during the early hours of Sunday morning. During the argument the suspects hit the deceased with a hammer and then stabbed him. The deceased suffered multiple stab wounds to both his upper and lower body,” said Tawana.

He added that two men, aged 28 and 49 years, were arrested on the scene following the murder.

Tawana said the suspects would appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on a charge of murder.

“The investigation continues.”

The deceased’s housemates were visibly traumatised and said that they had no idea what had happened.

“We came home to find Gerald lying lifeless on the ground. He had no enemies... we have no idea why he was killed.”

The Kimberley police have also opened an inquest docket following the death of a man residing in Frere Place in Beaconsfield on Saturday morning.

Tawana said that preliminary investigations pointed to a possible suicide.

“The identity of the deceased has not been released yet. The investigation continues.”
