Durban - A young Phoenix man has died after being stabbed with the shaft of a golf club that broke during the attack.

Marcelle Roopnarain, 24, of Full Palm Place, Phoenix, was attacked on Wednesday night when he went to see two men to collect some money, police said.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder.

Police spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane, said that when Roopnarain had asked the men for the money one of them allegedly assaulted him with a golf club.

A police source said the club had broken off during the attack and one of the assailants used the shaft to stab Roopnarain.

Zwane said the victim had sustained wounds to the chest and left arm.

Roopnarain died in hospital.

“Phoenix police arrested the men, aged 34 and 28, shortly after the incident. They will appear in the Phoenix Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of murder.”

Family spokesman Vishnu Karamchand said they were in mourning and distraught over the incident.

On Roopnarain’s Facebook page he professed his love for God in each of his postings.

In one post last year, Roopnarain had written: “No need to cherish luxury because everything comes and goes, even the life that you have is borrowed because you (are) not promised tomorrow, so live your life as if everyday’s gonna be your last.”
