A man will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate's Court for allegedly killing a 12-year-old girl and injuring two others, Western Cape police said on Monday.

Warrant Officer November Filander said two rival gangs shot at each other on the corner of Vlamboom and Vaalbos streets in Bonteheuwel on Saturday night.

A boy and girl, both 12, and a 17-year-old girl, were caught in the crossfire. The young girl died on the scene. The boy was shot in his left cheek and the teenager in her right foot.

Another shoot-out followed when the police arrived. They arrested a man, 21, with a 9mm pistol and ammunition in his possession.

He was set to appear in court on Tuesday. – Sapa
