Johannesburg - A man was critically wounded and his wife was injured during an armed robbery at their farm in Harburg, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday.

Captain Thulani Zwane said that the 50-year-old man and his wife, 44, were attacked by two men late on Friday night.

The robbers demanded cash, then shot the man and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Netcare911 spokesman Chris Botha said the man was critically wounded and his wife, who had blunt-force trauma injuries, was in a stable condition.

They were stabilised on scene and taken to St Annes Hospital in Pietermaritzburg.

Zwane said no one had been arrested by 11am on Saturday. - Sapa
