Cape Town – A combined police operation in crime-ridden Manenberg, Cape Town, resulted in several arrests and the confiscation of large amounts of drugs and alcohol, Western Cape police said on Sunday.

Members of the SA Police Service, the Cape Town metro police, and law enforcement agencies flooded the streets of Manenberg in an integrated operation from 9am to 8pm on Friday, SAPS spokeswoman Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said in a statement

Their presence was felt as 29 drug houses were searched and four men arrested, and 180 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R10 500, 17 “sticks” of dagga valued at R170, and 15 units of tik with an estimated street value of R300 were seized.

Several shebeens were raided and seven fines for contraventions of liquor legislation were issued. Two illegal shebeens were closed down, she said.

Extensive gangster graffiti was removed, and 10 schools were visited, where a 14-year-old girl was arrested for alleged possession of dagga. She was handed over into the care of the principal.

Altogether 114 vehicles were stopped and searched and 200 fines were issued.

Ten people were arrested for various crimes, including possession of illegal firearms, drugs, and traffic violations.

“The biggest success was that there was not a single complaint received from the community during the 10-hour operation,” Rwexana said.
