Mpumalanga - A police manhunt is under way for two suspects following the vigilante killing of five men, believed to be a gang, at a party near Hammarsdale on Saturday night.

Police spokesman Jay Naicker said the men, aged between 20 and 28, had been killed near a village called Sankontshe in the Mpumalanga area.

“Three others in the house were injured and taken to hospital.”

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu has assigned a team to address the existence of criminal gangs in the area.

“We urge people not to take the law into their own hands, but to work with the police. We will be engaging with all roleplayers and the community of Sankontshe to address issues of crime in the area.”

Naicker said the dead men were wanted for a number of murders and armed robberies.

“Two of the deceased were out on bail and due to appear in court next month to face murder charges,

“He said they were hiding from the police.
