Johannesburg - A manhunt has been launched for a man who allegedly shot dead his aunt and her daugher in Mofolo North, Soweto on Friday night, Gauteng police said.

“The shootings followed what seemed like a family dispute between the alleged suspect, his aunt and her daughter,” said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

He said the man arrived at the house and interrogated the aunt's daughter about why she beat up young children in the house.

“He slapped her three or four times, after which the aunt interfered,” Makhubela said.

The aunt, 54, and her daughter, 16, stepped out of the house to the car and to drive to a police station to report the matter.

“The man allegedly took out a firearm and shot them both. They died instantly. The suspect then left,” Makhubela said.
