A manhunt has been launched for the gunmen who killed a Port Elizabeth policewoman and wounded her colleague, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

“We will leave no stone unturned in our investigations until the perpetrators are brought to book,” provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Celiwe Binta said in a statement.

On Monday morning, the 31-year-old female constable, and Constable Mongezi Mqina, 36, were patrolling in the Veeplaas area when they were shot at.

The policewoman - who had not yet been named Ä died on the scene. She is survived by her husband and three children. Mqina was in a critical, but stable condition in Greenacres hospital.

By 3pm no arrests had been made. Binta visited the families of the constables to convey her sympathies. She also visited the scene of the crime.

Binta called on anyone with information about the murder to contact their nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600-10111. - Sapa
