Cape Town - Activists from around the Western Cape will stage a “Walk for Justice” march tomorrow to draw attention to homophobia and incidents of hate crimes in the townships.
The march will also serve as a call for the police to arrest rape accused Andile Ngcoza, who has allegedly skipped bail. Ngcoza was arrested on April 3, 2010, for allegedly beating, strangling and raping Millicent Gaika.
She was gagged and raped repeatedly for five hours.
Activist and founder of lesbian and gay lobby group Free Gender, Funeka Soldaat, said Gaika had never been the same since the incident.
About 300 social justice activists and community members are expected to join the 5km march from Luzuko township robots in Philippi to Gugulethu police station to hand over a memorandum demanding Ngcoza’s arrest. “Now he (Ngcoza) has a chance to come back and this time he might kill her,” said the TAC’s Pumeza Runeyi.
