Johannesburg - DA Parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko has written to National Assembly Speaker Max Sisulu asking that he call for a debate on the “child murder crisis” in the country, she said on Sunday.
“I will furthermore request that every minister in the peace and security cluster be present to demonstrate leadership and table a clear plan of action for the fight against crime in South Africa,” Mazibuko said in a statement.
“As the public outcry over the brutal deaths of our most vulnerable members of society continues, Parliament cannot isolate itself with its usual agenda.”
Four children were found murdered in Gauteng in the past month alone.
Mazibuko said she hoped that Sisulu and African National Congress chief whip Stone Sizani would put politics aside and allow the debate.
“As we share the pain of those who have suffered the most extreme loss, we must collectively send out a clear message, as a Parliament, that enough is enough,” she said.
