Johannesburg - Former President Thabo Mbeki drove without a licence, it was reported on Sunday.
During an interview for a lifestyle supplement Mbeki confessed that he used to drive African National Congress cars with a passbook receipt, the Sunday Sun reported.
The cars included a 1947 Chevrolet, a 1948 Dodge and a modern Ford Zephyr station wagon.
“I learnt to drive a car in 1961. This was because the then ANC secretary-general, the late Duma Nokwe and particularly his wife, Sis Tiny, insisted that, to assist him to do his work, I had to learn to drive the ANC cars to which he had access,” he was quoted as saying. - Sapa
