Johannesburg - The Johannesburg Family Court on Thursday said a DNA paternity test has confirmed that Mbuso Mandela is the father of Gugu Kheswa's three-year-old daughter.

This comes after Mandela, who was hauled before the court for not supporting his daughter, requested a DNA paternity test during last hearing on 21 February. The little girl's mother had asked the court to compel her erstwhile lover to pay child support.

A month earlier, the 26-year-old grandson of late former president Nelson Mandela was arrested in January for failing to support his daughter.

Reports suggested Mandela inherited R4 million from his grandfather's estate.

Kheswa maintained all along that Mandela was the father of her daughter and he needed to play his part in her upbringing.

"The reason I agreed to do the paternity test it's because I wanted what is best for my child, I am happy that the this process is final, going through it was tedious and draining," Kheswa said.

Now that paternity has been confirmed, Kheswa said she still intends to press on with court action to compel Mandela to support their daughter.

"I feel hopeful and want the matter to get resolved on paper so that my daughter will get everything that she is entitled to and needs," said Keswa.

Kheswa, who is desperate to engage a state funded lawyer, said there will be a financial investigation into the estate of Mandela's parents and his brother, Ndaba Mandela, who has been subpoenaed to appear in court.

They child support matter will be heard on 10 May.
