Police Lt-Gen Richard Mdluli has denied being served another suspension notice, the SABC reported on Friday.
“No, I'm currently off sick and I'm busy attending (a) doctor with emotional stress,” said Mdluli.
“I didn't receive anything. I don't have anything,” he added.
KwaZulu-Natal newspaper the Daily News reported on Thursday that Mdluli, former head of police crime intelligence, and head of covert support Major General Solly Lazarus had each received a notice of intention to suspend on Wednesday.
Police spokesman Brigadier Lindela Mashigo declined to confirm or deny the report.
“Whenever the SA Police Service serves notice to suspend a police officer, that arrangement becomes a matter between the employee and the employer.”
Last week, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa announced that Mdluli would be moved from his former post to a position in the office of the deputy national police commissioner for operations, Fannie Masemola.
Mdluli had charges brought against him last year, then withdrawn in connection with the murder of a lover of his former girlfriend.
He also had fraud charges brought against him relating to a secret fund and the purchase of vehicles. Those charges were also withdrawn.
A lobby group Freedom Under Law filed papers in the High Court in Johannesburg this week, demanding that Mdluli be removed from the police altogether.
Mdluli was first suspended in 2011 when he was arrested on the fraud and murder allegations, but the suspension was lifted in March this year. - Sapa
