Cape Town - A mentally handicapped woman who was raped will testify in camera.

This follows a State application on Tuesday, when accused Marco Geel of Wellington appeared in the Cape Town Regional Court.

The woman, who has the mental capacity of a child of 7 to 10 years, had been in the care of a welfare organisation when Geel allegedly raped her four times in 2011 when he visited the organisation, where someone close to him was working.

The State claims a witness who visited the woman noticed she had been bleeding. She was questioned and implicated Geel.

Geel handed himself to police on August 10, 2011.

He is to reappear on June 26.
