Johannesburg - The Johannesburg Metro Police Department’s (JMPD) internal affairs unit has registered a case against a metro police officer who allegedly drugged and raped a 16-year-old girl in the back room of her mother’s house in Braamfisherville.

JMPD spokesman, Wayne Minnaar, said in a statement on Friday that the officer had been arrested by police in the wake of alleged incident which happened on May 14.

“The case was opened following a report from the Independent Police Investigation Department,” Minnaar said.

According to Minnaar, the officer would be taken off official duty once he was released from police custody, to allow for the internal and criminal investigations to be finalised.
