Johannesburg - A motorist was shot and wounded after he pointed a firearm at a metro police officer in an apparent road rage incident in Honeydew on Wednesday, Johannesburg metro police said.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the cars of the 24-year-old motorist and the off-duty metro police officer collided at the Christiaan de Wet and John Vorster intersection in Honeydew.

The metro police officer was with his girlfriend, a police officer, in the car.

The motorist allegedly grabbed the policewoman's firearm and pointed it at the metro police officer. The officer reached for his own firearm and shot the motorist in the leg.

Minnaar said the man was in a stable condition in hospital. No arrests had been made. - Sapa
