Pretoria - Two Pretoria metro police officers will face disciplinary action for allegedly accepting bribes from motorists, the Tshwane metro police department said on Wednesday.

“The matter will be handled internally and they will be served with notices of intent to suspend,” said Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba..

The officers allegedly solicited bribes from motorists in Pretoria West, close to the intersection of Luttig and Maltzan streets on Tuesday.

A criminal case had not been opened against the men, who were both about 35-years-old.

A Tshwane metro police investigator saw the officers, thought they were up to something and parked nearby to watch what they were doing.

The stopped about 10 cars. One of them issued one fine and the other issued two fines.

Mahamba said the investigator saw the driver of a Mercedes-Benz pulled over hand money to one of the officers. The investigator stopped the driver.

“The driver proceeded to confess to paying a bribe and both the officers confessed to taking a bribe.

“An amount of R200 was found on one member and R190 on the other,” Mahamba said.
