MF councillor charged with theft

A case of theft under false pretences has been opened against a well-known Minority Front (MF) councillor.

This is the latest in a string of problems for the beleaguered party, since the death of Amichand Rajbansi in December last year.

The charges were laid yesterday by Chatsworth resident Abdool Rashid against the councillor in a property deal.

Rashid said he had paid the councillor for the purchase of property in Croftdene Drive, valued at R750 000.

“I had paid him about R348 000 since the beginning of last year,” said Rashid, who had also been living in the home since April last year.

However, Rashid said that about three weeks ago, he was kicked out of the house.

He said that when his attorney did a deeds search, they found that the property had been registered in somebody else’s name.

KwaZulu-Natal police confirmed that a case had been opened at the Bayview Police Station yesterday morning.

The councillor in question did not respond to calls and messages.
