Kimberley - A Roodepan man will appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of abduction after he allegedly kept a 16-year-old girl at his flat without her consent.
According to the girl’s parents, she went missing a few days ago and was found at Beatrice Flats in Roodepan over the weekend in bed with the suspect.
The family is now living in fear because they apparently received death threats from the girl’s abductors, whom they suspect of being involved in a drug and sex ring.
They also indicated that the matter was reported to the Hawks as the syndicate, according to them, involves police officers.
“She was dressed in a night gown and appeared to be heavily drugged when she was found. There were two others girls, aged 16 and 18, in the three-bedroom flat. We are convinced that the girls were also used to sell drugs. Drugs, a staple gun, empty drug packets and a blade were confiscated by the police during the raid.”
They added that the Grade 10 learner, in an affidavit, provided details of the drugs that they used, including Tik, cocaine, Mandrax and heroin.
“Social workers are keeping her at a place of safety and we have not seen her since she was released from the flat. The entire community is living in fear of these drug lords,” her parents said.
According to the family, they regard a social network message, posted by one of the men associated with the alleged drug ring, that he would “end what you’ve started” as an indirect warning that he would end their lives.
“One of the drug runners, who was in possession of my daughter’s SIM card, accused me of assaulting him and pointing a firearm at him. I believe that this is a strategy to disarm me. I cannot stand back and not get involved. Nothing will stop me from protecting my daughter,” the girl’s father stated.
Police spokeswoman Lieutenant Andrea Cloete said the suspect was arrested by the Roodepan police on Friday on charges of abduction.
She added that although the police were aware of numerous allegations, the issue of rape and the confiscation of drugs could not be confirmed at this stage.
The police investigation continues.
