Durban - A Durban woman allegedly kidnapped by her husband at gunpoint on Saturday has been reunited with her family.

The woman, who was taken from her parents’ Merebank home, was dropped at the Wentworth police station on Sunday.

A relative, who did not want to be named, said the woman's husband and another man were arrested but the police could not confirm this.

The woman, 19, had apparently left her husband a week ago.

The two have been married for a year-and-a-half.

A relative told The Mercury that men with guns dragged the young woman out of her home, into a vehicle and drove off.

The picture of the couple and the vehicle were posted on Facebook with pleas for help from her family.

Her father, who cannot be named, said: “He came and kidnapped her on Saturday; the police called and told him that if he did not return her, he would be going to prison for a long time, so he returned her to the police station.”

He said the couple’s relationship had been volatile and after his daughter had returned to her family home, her husband had arrived and threatened to take her away by force.

“They came back on Saturday, his brother with him. They forced their way into the house and grabbed my daughter and assaulted my wife,” he said.

His daughter was back home, although traumatised. Police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said a case of kidnapping had been opened but could not confirm an arrest.
