Johannesburg -

A woman who has been missing since April was found dead with her throat cut at a mine shaft in Bekkersdal, Soweto police said on Saturday.

Captain Kay Makhubela said the woman was last seen on April 24 after visiting her boyfriend in Protea Glen, Soweto, driving a BMW.

She had dropped friends off afterwards and drove away, never reaching home.

The alarm was raised and a missing person's case was opened with the police.

The following day her BMW was found abandoned in Protea Glen and the case was changed from missing person to kidnapping.

“Since then we have been looking and searching for the woman,” said Makhubela.

On Thursday police received information about a woman's body found in a mine shaft in Bekkersdal, south west of Johannesburg.

Police went with the 33-year-old woman's family to the government mortuary in Randfontein to see if it may be the missing woman, and they identified her body.

“It was very bad for them,” said Makhubela.

He asked that anybody who might have information which could help police, or who may have noticed anything that may be of help on the day mentioned, to sms 32211 with a message or report it at a police station. - Sapa
