Komatipoort - A woman and two men arrested in connection with the vigilante murder of a suspected rapist will remain in custody, the Tonga Magistrate's Court decided on Monday.

The three, Patricia Maphosa, 41, Charles Mabusela, 27, and Joseph Thabo Mkhabela, 54, all from Pholani section near Naas Township outside Komatipoort, were not asked to plead to charges of murder when they appeared on Monday, a Sapa correspondent reported.

“Your case is very serious because it involves the murder of a community member. In that way you three will be remanded in custody until next month,” Magistrate Sibonisiwe Sibuyi told the accused.

The three were arrested on February 11 after police investigators linked them to an attack on two rape and murder suspects on February 9. One of the suspects later died after sustaining serious injuries.

Sibuyi postponed the case to April 29 for further police investigation.
