Johannesburg - Two weeks after two North West girls suffocated while playing in an unused car, a two-year-old Roodepoort girl nearly suffered the same fate, after her mother left her unattended while shopping.
Locked in a car with the windows closed in a parking lot, the girl was treated for dehydration after a pastor who found her broke a car window and called paramedics.
The 31-year-old mother has been arrested and was expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the girl was in a serious condition when paramedics found her at Constantia Park on Saturday.
“She was stabilised on the scene and rehydrated by paramedics before being taken to a police station,” said Botha.
It was not known how long the toddler had been locked up in the car.
