Pretoria – The mother of a murdered Vereeniging woman on Monday described her horror at seeing her daughter lying dead with a gunshot wound in her forehead.

The daughter was allegedly shot dead by her husband, a member of the SAPS flying squad. Edward Kennedy Fox is accused of murdering his wife of four years, Che Rudelle Fox, in November 2014, after being arrested for the crime this year.

Che’s mother, Genee Kester, broke down as she testified about the events. “Kennedy called me just after 3am and said something bad had happened – Che had been shot. I asked how bad it was. He said ‘it doesn’t look good’.”

Kester was giving evidence in the high court sitting in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court. “When we got to their house, the accused, his mother and cousin were in the lounge. They didn’t say anything but showed me into the bedroom, where I saw Che."

Her daughter had a hole in her forehead, her face was swollen, and she could see blood in her nose, she added. “I asked the accused’s mother if her son shot my daughter and she screamed how could I accuse her son of doing that. She said the bullet was meant for the accused and not Che.”

Kester said Che intended to move out after the couple agreed on separating due to their tumultuous relationship. Constable Mophethe Motaung testified Fox claimed an intruder had shot his wife and fled.
