Johannesburg - The decomposing body of a man has been found in the boot of a car at Montecasino in Fourways, north of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Monday.

“It was found (on Sunday) at around 1pm by security guards on patrol. They were drawn (to investigate) by the smell coming out of the car,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

Police were called and they opened the car's boot, where the decomposing body was found.

A check on the car's registration number showed that the car had not been reported stolen.

The owner of the car would be interviewed, and no arrests had been made by 9am on Monday.

Police were investigating a case of murder.

A post-mortem examination would determine the cause of death.

CCTV footage from the casino would be used in the investigation, said Dlamini. - Sapa
