Mmabatho - A popular radio personality accused of culpable homicide appeared in the Mmabatho Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, North West police said.

The matter was postponed to June 27 for further investigation, Brigadier Thulane Ngubane said.

Mzwandile Dick Moalusi, 30, a DJ at the SABC's Motsweding FM, was granted R5000 bail on Tuesday. He was also charged with drunken driving and failure to render assistance to the two people who were killed, said Ngubane.

The Sowetan reported that Moalusi knocked down nine-year-old Paseka Ntwaagae and his uncle, Motebele Ntwaagae, 33, as they were walking back home after an all-night church service.

The boy's mother, Semakaleng Ntwaagae and her 12-year-old daughter were walking ahead of the two when the accident happened in Mmabatho around 5am on Sunday.

“It is alleged that the silver Audi lost control as it was driving at high speed and knocked down the two boys who were walking on the side of the road,” Ngubane said on Sunday.

The Audi collided with another car and a rock before it came to a halt. Moalusi apparently ran away after the accident. He later handed himself over to police in the presence of his lawyer.
