Pretoria - The case against two men accused of the murder of Pretoria Flying Squad officer Max Lekalakala during a highway shoot-out, was on Tuesday postponed to next month for more than 20 other dockets to be combined.

Lucky Madiba and Mpho Mohlala appeared in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court where State prosecutor Barbara Ndela told the court that there more than 20 other dockets from across the province which needed to be combined with the current two for Madiba and Mohlala.

Ndela told magistrate David Shikwambana that indictments on the accused could not be served at the moment as the State was still looking at the other dockets which were established during the investigations.

The state therefore requested that the matter be postponed for the consideration of the said dockets and and for the formal indictments to be served.

Shikwambana postponed the case to July 26 for the purposes of consolidating all the dockets and the drafting of the indictments before the matter could be transferred to the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria for trial.

Advocate Steve Sekwele, who was initially representing both the accused but withdrew his representation of Madiba due his inability to settle the costs, told the court that he did not have have anything to say and agreed to the postponement date.

Madiba and Mohlala are accused of fatally wounding constable Lekalakala during a shoot-out with police along the N4 highway in March.
