A total of 1070 people were arrested in Limpopo over the Easter period for various offences including murder, rape and robbery, provincial police said on Tuesday.

“Most of the suspects were arrested at road blocks which were conducted throughout the province,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Mohale Ramatseba.

He said it was understood the crimes had been committed over the long weekend.

Other crimes included culpable homicide, child abuse, public violence, stock and motor theft, fraud and malicious damage to property.

Ramatseba said admission of guilt fines ranging from R100 to R2 000 were issued to 527 people for drinking in public, selling liquor without a licence and contravention of the Liquor Act.
