Johannesburg - Mpumalanga police were on Tuesday still hunting for five men who escaped from the Mhala police station cells in Nelspruit.

Six men cut through the bars around the exercise cell and escaped on Sunday, spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said in a statement.

“Police managed to re-arrest one prisoner, Trevor Khosa, 24, arrested for robbery, immediately after the incident.”

The five still on the run were France Jacky Sekgobela, 35, arrested for murder; Eugene Riding, 27, for murder; Rodney Nyakane, 26, murder; Tumelo Theko, 20, rape; and Ishmael Radingoana, 28, rape.

Mohlala said pieces of hacksaw blades were found in the cells. An internal investigation was underway to determine how they had managed to escape. - Sapa
